Resilience Design for Shell Point - Parris Island Interchange
Geoscience Consultants, LLC worked with Sherwood Design Engineers on a resilience project to enhance and protect access to Parris Island Marine Corps Base during present and future coastal and pluvial flooding events. Geoscience worked to model future coastal water levels from coastal flooding. Several physical (1 and 2D) and statistical models were built and used to highlight wave runup and flooding recurrence depths. This included assessment of various low-crested breakwater designs and resulting total water levels. The data was used to design flood gate elevations and define offshore alternatives as well as road elevations and upland flood defenses. The final deliverables were used for 60% designs and a monitoring plan.
