Lower Savannah Watershed Management Planning
Geoscience Consultants worked with the Lowcountry Council of Governments (LCOG) in developing a forward looking watershed management plan for five watersheds in the Lower Savannah. The area is directly adjacent to a major freshwater withdrawal that provides water to hundreds of thousands of people. The goal was to target ways to maintain the existing good water quality. To this we modeled the watersheds using several separate models including BASINS, NSPECT, and STEPL to provide several levels of detail and cross - validate results between models and in-situ measurements. Human caused bacteria was modeled using a GIS approach that mapped each individual source (septic systems) and the pathways to the Lower Savannah River. Climate change was factored into future conditions and highlighted the areas that may see increased NPS pollution. The full report is available here
